Kat Von D writing about Ali in her new, New York Times Best Sellers List book, “The Tattoo Chronicles”.
“Michael came with me to see what Ali Helnwein put together for Nikki’s birthday after our initial meeting a couple of weeks ago. The rehearsal pretty much sold me on the idea that this is gonna blow Nikki’s mind! Ali is our favorite modern-day composer; ever since I played his music for Nikki, he’s been addicted to it.
“Ali, along with the twelve string players, rehearsed two medleys while Michael and I watched and listened. By the time they played ‘Home Sweet Home’, I literally was fighting back tears. It was beautiful.
“I wonder if any of these players ever imagined playing a rendition of ‘Shout at the Devil’ when they first started studying their instruments!”
– SHE ALSO WRITES:
“What a wonderful introduction for Ali Helnwein and the players to take center stage and fill the room with the beautiful sounds of Nikki’s music, everything from ‘Shout at the Devil’ to ‘Home Sweet Home,’ all done in classical form, but with Ali’s dark touch. The portrait of Nikki that Kevin worked on till the eleventh hour made for a perfect background to all of this.”
